Answers
- Iron, copper and gold are examples of metals.
- Materials which can be compressed or scratched easily are called soft materials, while some other materials which are difficult to compress are called hard materials. For example, cotton or sponge is soft while iron and gold are examples of hard materials.
- The properties like lustre, hardness, rough or smooth etc describe the appearance of the material.
- The substances which are completely disappear or dissolve in water are said to soluble in water. Example: Sugar and salt. The substances which do not mix with water and do not disappear even after we stir for a long time are called insoluble substances. Example for insoluble substances are wood and plastic.
- Water plays an important role in the functioning of our body, because it can dissolve a large number of substances.
- The substances, through which things can be seen, are called transparent materials. Glass, water, air are examples of transparent materials.
- Shopkeepers prefer to keep objects in transparent containers, because it makes him easy to locate the items and also it will be helpful for the buyers to see and choose easily.
- The materials through which we are not able to see are called opaque materials.Examples for opaque materials are wood and metal.
- The materials through which objects can be seen, but not clearly are known as translucent materials. Examples for translucent materials are butter paper and thin sheets of plastic.
- At home and shops, we usually store similar objects together. This help us to locate them easily. Dividing of materials in different groups is also helpful to study their properties and observe its patterns.
- We can group the objects in such a way that whether they are soft or hard materials. We can also classify them whether they are transparent, opaque or translucent.
